Just What I Needed: Pat's Run 2013

The Start

Pat’s Run is by far one of my favorite events in Arizona every year. There is a special energy that takes over my alma mater’s campus, as more than 28,000 participants walk, run, and honor Pat Tillman, a military hero who exemplified dedicated and humble leadership.

The race is typically filled with a patriotic and celebratory air, but this year was different from others with the bombings at the Boston Marathon so fresh in everyone’s minds. The day began with a long moment of silence for all of those impacted, as thousands of people in Tempe, Arizona, sent prayers and well wishes to everyone in Boston, Massachusetts. Pat Tillman demonstrated how to be courageous in even the scariest of times, and today, attendees showed that only by continuing to live our lives, can we honor those that have been lost.

Pat believed strongly in standing up for what he believed in, giving back to his local and national community, and inspiring others to live a life of service. All of the proceeds from Pat’s Run will support scholars in the Leadership Through Action program, all of whom continue Pat’s legacy today.

After last week's events, there is no place I would have rather been this morning than the 42nd yard line in Sun Devil Stadium: a place of peace, hope, and community.

P.S. If you want a true hero to look up to, learn more about Pat here. The way that he lived his life will forever be an inspiration to me.
